Erdogan confirmed Zelensky’s readiness to contribute to peace between Russia and Ukraine

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, during phone talks with Vladimir Zelensky, reiterated his readiness to take on a role in establishing lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Erdogan confirmed during telephone talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday that Turkey is ready to take on the role of mediator between Russia and Ukraine.

“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky,” the Turkish leader’s office said, noting that the conflict was discussed, also Erdogan expressed condolences for the helicopter crash in Ukraine on Wednesday.

During the talks, Erdogan reportedly reiterated his readiness to make a diplomatic contribution to the establishment of a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine and to assume the role of mediator in the process.

The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier said that Kiev is set to escalate rather than negotiate. The Kremlin noted that Russia agreed with statements from the West that a just and lasting peace should be the outcome of resolving the situation, but Moscow did not see any prospects for negotiating a settlement.
